About this episode

For many years, there were very few resources for Christians who wanted to learn how to have a healthy sex life. Now Christians can find more and more books, courses, and videos to help them. It’s great to have choices, but sometimes it’s hard to know whether or not a particular resource is good.

Today we’re joined by Phylicia Masonheimer. She encourages women to discern God’s truth and live out their faith boldly in every area of their lives—including the bedroom. We talk about why it’s difficult to discern which resources are biblical and helpful, what to consider when evaluating a resource, and whether to use a secular resource and then share a few recommendations.

What does God have to say about evaluating resources?

Ephesians 5

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. – Psalm 111:10

In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. – Hebrews 5:12-14

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. – Colossians 2:8

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. – James 3:17-18

Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees,
that I may follow it to the end.
Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law
and obey it with all my heart.
Direct me in the path of your commands,
 for there I find delight.
Turn my heart toward your statutes
 and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to your word.
– Psalm 119:33-37
